Campus operations will return to normal on Friday, May 17.

In-person instruction should resume as scheduled. All employees should report to work as normal.



Remote Instruction, Libraries and Dining Halls Open Today

Instruction on Thursday, May 16 will be conducted remotely. All employees, unless otherwise specified, should also work from home.



UC Irvine can confirm that 47 individuals who were on campus and disrupting university operations in violation of university policy and state laws were arrested and cited for violations including failure to disperse and trespassing. We are not able to confirm the affiliation for any of those arrested at this time.

While the university has moved to remote operation for today, May 16, the Student Center is open to provide students with study space. Additionally, Langson Library and the Science Library will be open today to provide students with spaces to access their remote classes. Dining will remain open for students who reside on campus

Hours of Operation

Langson Library and the Science Library will be open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Student Center will be open from 7 a.m. to midnight.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. a group of several hundred protestors entered the UC Irvine campus and began surrounding the Physical Sciences Lecture Hall.

The university put out a call for mutual aid to local law enforcement agencies and has received on-site assistance from the Irvine Police Department and Orange County Sheriff’s department as protestors swarmed the campus joining a group of protestors who had established an encampment on the campus.

Classes have been cancelled for the remainder of the day and the university has notified anyone in the immediate area on campus to shelter in place. We are continuing to monitor the situation and strongly urge people to stay away from the campus.

Protest activity continues in the Physical Science Quad and Aldrich Park areas. Please avoid the area until further notice.

UCI staff employees should work remote tomorrow. Employees should coordinate with their supervisors to make arrangements for remote work. Flexibility should be provided to employees during these unprecedented circumstances. Supervisors may contact their HR representative regarding any questions.

Support is available through the UCI Counseling Center for students and the UCI Life Resources Program for employees affected by today's events.
